The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (located in South Dakota) passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on June 11, 2024

RESOLUTION NO. 146-2024-CR

WHEREAS, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is an unincorporated Tribe of Indians, having accepted the provisions of the Act of June 18, 1934 (48 Stat. 984); and

WHEREAS, the Tribe , in order to establish its Tribal organization ; to conserve its Tribal property; to develop its common resources; and to promote the general welfare of its people, as ordained and established a Constitution and By- laws; and

WHEREAS, the Palestinian people and their ancient ancestral lands in Gaza are under the seventh month of a prolonged brutal attach from colonial forces; and

WHEREAS, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe has a value system that values and protects children and vulnerable people; and

WHEREAS, as a Nation within a Nations it is our duty as a sovereign entity to call on the United States of America to enforce an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Palestine; and

WHEREAS, in solidarity with anti-apartheid activists throughout the world, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement in solidarity with the indigenous peoples of Palestine; and

WHEREAS, in this generation, the Israeli government has compensated and protected settlers from Europe and the United States in forcing whole villages to evacuate under force of military might; and

WHEREAS, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe calls on the United Nations and the United States of America to guarantee the right of return to all Palestine people since the first Nakba in 1948; and

WHEREAS, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe demands immediate food and medical aid be delivered to the Palestine people being victimized due to so called terrorist activity; and

WHEREAS, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe call upon Hamas to release any further hostages safely; and

WHEREAS, the members of the American Indian Movement and the members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and hundreds of federally recognized tribal nations that stood against the Dakota Access Pipeline on the lands of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation were also labeled "terrorists" for standing up to corporate industrial incursions on sovereign indigenous lands; and

WHEREAS, duringthebattleovertheDakotaAccessPipeline,multipleindividualpeople and several Palestinian organizations declared their unwavering support for the Oceti Sakowin ; and

WHEREAS, war is only something that should be done at the last resort; not something to expand the lands and resources of colonial forces , hospitals and schools and refugee camps should never be used as military targets; and

WHEREAS, Pte San Win instructed Lakota people to live as good relatives and it is on us to live up to that command in thought, word and deed ; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe does hereby call for an immediate ceasefire, and humanitarian food and medical aid to be delivered to the indigenous people of Palestine; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, hereby declares, re- asserts, and expresses its intentions to protect and preserve our people, our relatives and our values as long as the grass is green and the wind blows; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that nothing in this Resolution diminishes, divests, alters, or otherwise affects any inherent, treaty, statutory, or other rights of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe over the property or activities described herein. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe expressly retains all rights and authority over the property and activities described herein, including but not limited to legislative, regulatory, adjudicatory, and taxing powers.

CERTIFICATION

I, the undersigned, as Secretary of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, certify that the Tribal Council is composed of fifteen (15) members, of whom 10, constituting a quorum, were present at a meeting duly and regularly called, noticed, convened and held this 4th day of June 2024, Regular Session; and that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted at such meeting by a roll call vote of 10 yes, 0 no, 1 abstaining, 2 absent, 1 vacant, and 1 not voting (Vice-Chairman).
