Eureka, California passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on June 4, 2024
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUREKA CALLING FOR CEASEFIRE IN THE ISRAEL PALESTINE CONFLICT
WHEREAS, the City of Eureka supports peace and diplomatic solutions to international conflicts; and
WHEREAS, there has been intolerable innocent death and destruction in the Middle East, before and since October 7, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Eureka is a community that rejects violence, hate speech and racism of any kind; and
WHEREAS, Eureka is a community that embraces peace, justice and respect for all; and
WHEREAS, there has been far too much division in our community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Eureka does hereby support:
An immediate mutual and permanent ceasefire and total cessation of violence by all parties involved;
A mutual exchange of all hostages and civilian political prisoners;
Unrestricted delivery of humanitarian assistance, and restoration of food, water, electricity, and medical supplies to wherever they are needed;
Mutual respect for international law; and
Reinvigorated diplomacy to develop a permanent, just solution to the conflict and lasting peace in the region.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution is sent to the offices of President Joseph R. Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Gavin Newsom, Senator Alex Padilla, Representative Jared Huffman, State Senator Mike McGuire, and Assembly Member Jim Wood, urging them to immediately use their position and influence to end the violence and promote peace in the region.
