La Puente, California passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on April 9, 2024
RESOLUTION NO. 24-5864
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PUENTE, CALIFORNIA, DEMANDING AN IMMEDIATE ANDPERMANENT CEASEFIRE
WHEREAS, al human life is precious, and the targeting of civilians, no matter their faith or ethnicity, is a violation of international humanitarian law; and
WHEREAS, on October 26th, the United Nations General Assembly, in a near unanimous vote, called for an immediate and sustained humanitarian ceasefire; and
WHEREAS, the City of La Puente advocates for peace, safety, dignity, freedom, and equality for all people, and is comprised of diverse individuals whose collective cultures, religions, backgrounds, orientations, abilities, and viewpoints join to form a community that prides itself on being welcoming and accepting of people from all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has claimed the lives ofmany individuals such as Palestinians, Israeli, and others ni the region, caused immeasurable suffering to countless persons, and continued risk of death is imminent if the release of all hostages, Palestinian and Israeli, and a permanent end to these atrocities does not take place; and
WHEREAS, the City of La Puente calls on leaders at the federal level to work cooperatively with the global community to release all hostages, Israeli and Palestinian, seek bilateral de-escalation and a permanent end to the abhorrent current violence, ensure humanitarian aid is delivered to Gaza without delay, and pursue peace in the Middle East to guard and protect the lives, health, and security of all innocent civilians.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PUENTE HEREBY FINDS, DETERMINES AND RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated herein by reference.
SECTION 2. The provisions of this Resolution are severable and if any provision, clause, sentence, word or part thereof is held illegal, invalid, unconstitutional, or inapplicable to any personor circumstances, such illegality, invalidity, unconstitutionality, or inapplicability shall not affect or impair any of the remaining provisions, clauses, sentences, sections, words or parts thereof o fthe Resolution or their applicability t oother persons or circumstances.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this Resolution and that the same shall be in full force and effect.
SECTION 4. The La Puente City Council supports all its residents and condemns all forms of racism, bigotry, discrimination, and violence.
SECTION .5 The La Puente City Council requests a copy of this resolution to be sent to the offices of the President of the United States and our Congressional Delegation.
