The Idaho Democratic Party passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on March 11, 2024:
IDAHO DEMOCRATIC PARTY
A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR AN IMMEDIATE AND LASTING CEASEFIRE IN PALESTINE
WHEREAS, since October 7, 2023, more than 30,0001,2 Palestinians, including over 25,000 women and children (1), and 1,410 Israelis have been killed, countless Israeli and Palestinian women have been subjected to rape and sexual violence and 101 Israelis remain held hostage (2); and
WHEREAS, almost 2.3 million Palestinians have been displaced and more than 70,000 Palestinian civilians have been injured due to this conflict; and
WHEREAS, at least 350 U.S. citizens and approximately 600 legal residents (3) of the United States of America are trapped in Gaza and the West Bank; and
WHEREAS, neighborhoods, schools, places of worship, critical infrastructure, and all hospitals in Palestine have been functionally destroyed, contributing to the erasure of Palestinian communities and culture; and
WHEREAS, humanitarian aid, including food, water, medical supplies, and other material and logistical assistance is urgently needed; and
WHEREAS, a poll released by Data for Progress (4) on December 5, 2023, finds sixty-one (61) percent of likely voters, including a supermajority of Democrats (76%), a majority of Independents (57%), and a plurality of Republicans (49%), support the U.S. calling for a permanent lasting ceasefire and a de-escalation of violence in Gaza and the West Bank; and
WHEREAS, one-hundred-fifty-three (153) UN member states voted for the General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, and humanitarian aid in Gaza and the West Bank with the U.S. among the only ten (10) countries that voted against the measure (5); and
WHEREAS, as of March 4th, 2024, seventy-four (74) Democratic members of Congress (6) have called for a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank; and
WHEREAS, at least forty-eight (48) Democrat-led U.S. cities (7) have passed resolutions calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank; and
WHEREAS, dozens of young, Idaho Democratic voters and leaders have called upon the Idaho Democratic Party to call for a ceasefire and stand against the indiscriminate killing, displacement, denial of basic resources to civilians, and destruction of Palestinian culture and community; and
WHEREAS, a ceasefire is crucial to facilitate the safe release of all hostages and build a foundation for peace:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Idaho Democratic Party calls for a lasting bilateral ceasefire, immediate release of all hostages, and safe return of the trapped U.S. Citizens and legal residents to the United States, and urges President Biden to work toward a permanent resolution of this conflict, which includes a permanent ceasefire, with all involved governments.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the The Idaho Democratic Party calls upon the President and Congress to condition funding and military support for Israel on good-faith engagement in ceasefire negotiations, long-term conflict resolution respecting Palestinian rights, and increased humanitarian aid for Gaza and the West Bank, while also urging the President and Congress to end all funding and military aid contributing to indiscriminate violence, displacement, and human rights violations towards Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
