Fort Bragg, California passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on February 26, 2024
RESOLUTION NO. 4751-2024
RESOLUTION OF THE FORT BRAGG CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING A SUSTAINED CEASEFIRE IN THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT, A RELEASE OF ALL HOSTAGES; AND IMMEDIATE HUMANITARIAN AID FOR THE CIVILIANS OF GAZA
WHEREAS, the residents of the city of Fort Bragg place a high value on all peoples’ human right to life, free of the terror of bombing and with access to adequate food, water, shelter, and medical aid; and
WHEREAS, all human life is precious, and the targeting of civilians— no matter their faith or ethnicity— is a violation of humanitarian law; and
WHEREAS, we mourn the loss of all civilian lives lost on both sides from October 7th to the present; and
WHEREAS, approximately 70% of those killed having been women and children— and the mass destruction of homes, schools, and medical facilities; and
WHEREAS, international organizations such as Amnesty International, the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Rescue Committee, and many others have made a call for ceasefire in order to prevent the further loss of life of civilians and to be in accordance with international humanitarian law; and
WHEREAS, in 2023 the US taxpayers gave $3.8 billion to Israel in military aid. In 2024, so far, through the National Security Package, the US has pledged $14.5 billion in military aid to Israel; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fort Bragg joins other cities in calling on members of Congress and the Biden administration to demand: an immediate ceasefire; release of all hostages; the unrestricted entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and the restoration of food, water, electricity, internet, and medical supplies; respect for international law; and calls for a resolution that protects the security of all innocent civilians, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to US Senator Laphonza Butler, US Senator Alex Padilla, US Representative Jared Huffman, State Senator Mike McGuire, US President Joe Biden, and US Vice President Kamala Harris.
