Warren, Michigan passed a CEASEFIRE resolution on February 13, 2024
The Warren City Council offers the following resolution affirming its commitment and support for congressional and worldwide calls for humanitarian treatment of all people, the safe release of hostages, and the cessation of violence around the world.
WHEREAS, the Warren City Council strives to create and maintain a vibrant and safe community for all people to live, work, play, raise a family, and retire; and,
WHEREAS, the city of Warren affirms and celebrates the diversity of its community and values all people regardless of their race, gender, national heritage, religious beliefs, or ethnic background; and,
WHEREAS, the members of the Warren City Council advocate for the mutual respect and acceptance of all people and stands against anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, bigotry, discrimination, and racism both abroad and here at home; and,
WHEREAS, the Warren City Council firmly denounce any word or action that minimizes the value of an individual, community, religious organization, municipality, state, territory, or country; and
WHEREAS, the Warren City Council further recognizes that international issues, while beyond our legislative authority, resonate deeply and impacts the emotional well-being of many within our community that we were elected to represent.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the members of the Warren City Council reaffirm their commitment and stand with our neighbors to call for humanitarian treatment of all people, the promotion of peaceful resolutions, the safe release of all hostages, and the cessation of violence around the world; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members of the Warren City Council support the rights of people of all nations, to live in peace and security; and further uphold the rights of those in our community to engage in advocacy and peaceful protest without threat or intimidation, reinforcing our collective resilience against divisiveness, hatred, and misunderstanding.
