PASSAIC COUNTY, NEW JERSEY

RESOLUTION NO. 2023-236

RESOLUTION CALLING FOR CONGRESSMAN PASCRELL T0 SUPPORT CONGRESSIONAL RESOLUTION 786, CALLING FOR AN IMMEDIATE DE-ESCALATION AND CEASE-FIRE IN ISRAEL AND OCCUPIED PALESTINE

WHEREAS, Congresswoman Cori Bush (for herself and fellow Congressional Representatives, Ms. Tallb, Mr. Carson, Ms. Lee of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Ramirez, Mr. Bowman, Mrs. Watson Coleman, Mr. Garciaof Illinois, Mr. Jackson of Illinois, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, Ms. Omar, Ms. Pressley, and Ms. Velazquez) submitted a Resolution "Calling for an immediate de-escalation and cease-fire in Israel and occupied Palestine”; and

WHEREAS, Resolution 786 urges the Biden administration to immediately call for and facilitate de-escalation and a cease-fire to urgently end the current violence, and calls upon the Biden administration to promptly send and facilitate the entry of humanitarian assistance in Gaza; and

WHEREAS, from October 7th, 2023, to December 27th, 2023, in excess of 21,110 Palestinians have been killed, including a significant amount of civilians, women, and children; and

WHEREAS, an immediate cease-fire and de-escalation will save lives; and

WHEREAS, Congressman Pascrell represents a significant number of residents in Prospect Park affected by the ongoing killing of civilians, including women and children; and

WHEREAS, Congressman Bill Pascrell has not supported Congressional Resolution 786 calling for an immediate de-escalation and cease-fire inIsrael and occupied Palestine; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor and the Municipal Council believes that an immediate cease-fire and de-escalation will save lives as well as positively impact the residents of Prospect Park and their families,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Prospect Park Municipal Council urges Congressman Bill Pascrell to join in supporting Congressional Resolution 786 calling for an immediate de-escalation and cease-fire in Israel and occupied Palestine and to assist in its passing.

Thereby certify that this resolution, consisting of 1 page, was adopted at a Special Meeting of the Borough Council of the Borough of Prospect Park, held this 27th day of December 2023.
