Coralville, Iowa CEASEFIRE resolution passed on January 16, 2024
RESOLUTION ISSUING STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF PEACE IN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL.
WHEREAS, the City of Coralville prides itself on being a welcoming place to live and work for citizens of all races, nationalities and creeds; and
WHEREAS, there are Palestinians residents living in the City of Coralville; and
WHEREAS, Coralville is also the home of the Agudas Achim Congregation, which purchased its current facility in 2012; and
WHEREAS, the City Council joins with our citizens to mourn the loss of life in Israel and Palestine; and
WHEREAS, the City Council condemns all violence that leads to the further loss of innocent civilians and the ongoing human suffering in both Palestine and Israel; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that the civilians in Gaza lack access to food, water, medicine and other basic necessities of life; and
WHEREAS, the City Council supports a ceasefire and the release of all hostages and captives held by all parties to the conflict.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Coralville, Johnson County, Iowa, the following:
1. That the City Council hereby condemns all types of violence that lead to the loss of innocent civilian lives in Israel and Gaza.
2. That the City Council condemns anti-semitism, islamophobia and bigotry towards Palestinians, Arabs and Israelis in all forms.
3. That the City Council calls for an immediate and permanent bilateral ceasefire to prevent the further loss of innocent lives, as well as the release of all hostages and captives.
4. That the City Council calls on the leaders of all nations to assist in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
5. That the City Council supports the overall goal of peace, justice and equal rights for all inhabitants of the region.
