A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA CALLNG FOR THE RELEASE OF ALL HOSTAGES HELD BY HAMAS, HUMANITARIAN AID FOR CIVILIANS IN GAZA, AND A PERMANENT BILATERAL CEASEFIRE IN GAZA THAT RECOGNIZES ISRAEL' S SECURITY AND RIGHT TO EXIST AND A FREE PALESTINIAN STATE
WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana believes that all people regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, and religion should be able to live with dignity, freedom, and equality without fear; and
WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana condemns the rise of Islamophobic, anti- Semitic, racist, and xenophobic attacks in our City and across the nation; and
WHEREAS the current Israel- Hamas War has resulted in the rape, torture, and death of over 1, 200 Israelis and the capture of over 240 hostages, including United States citizens, children, and the elderly, by Hamas and the death of over 30,000 Palestinians, including over 14,000 children, by the State of Israel; and
WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana recognizes that a bilateral ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and good faith diplomacy must occur in order to save the lives of innocent Palestinians and Israelis.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of Santa Ana hereby condemns terrorism, authoritarianism, violence, and hate in all its forms.
Section 2. The City of Santa Ana will continue to track and report on hate crimes occurring in its jurisdiction and promote diversity, dignity, and cross-cultural collaboration; and
Section 3. The City of Santa Ana calls on Congress and the President of the United States to demand the release of all hostages held by Hamas, the release of prisoners held in Israel who have not been convicted in a court of law, humanitarian assistance for civilians in Gaza, compliance with international law by warring combatants, and a permanent bilateral ceasefire that recognizes Israel' s security and right to exist and a free Palestinian state in the form of a two-state solution.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the City Council, and the City Clerk shall attest to and certify the vote of the adoption.
